From CASABLANCA:
Captain Renault: Ricky, I'm going to miss you. Apparently you're the only one in Casablanca with less scruples than I.
Matlab 2010a is tested on Ubuntu 10.0.4 . It installs and runs without any problems.
Unfortunately Matlab is not free : See http://http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/wrgrid/software/matlab for details of how to get/use Matlab at Sheffield University.

Major Strasser: What is your nationality?
Rick: I'm a drunkard.
Captain Renault: That makes Rick a citizen of the world.

Make Ubuntu your main workstation.
Fed up of Windows/Viruses/Grinding Speeds ? Try UBUNTU.

Casablanca ( continued ) ...
Rick: And remember, this gun is pointed right at your heart.
Captain Renault: That is my *least* vulnerable spot.
Those of you who already have the floating license version of Matlab on your
own desktop will be interested to know that I have installed and tested the
latest version of Matlab on my Ubuntu workstation with no problems.
I found the easiest way of circumventing security issues is to do-
sudo gnome-terminal and run install under that new shell.
Similarly latest version of Maple (V13) does install and run OK on Ubuntu
workstations. There will be more announcements on
how to get and install these software on your workstation.
